PG Bison Environmental Declaration
|
PG Bison actively strives to operate in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. By taking cognisance of current environmental conditions and directing our efforts accordingly, we can contribute positively towards the environment of tomorrow, while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Company. Furthermore, operating within environmentally sound principles leads to a stable and consistent product supply, allowing our Customers to plan and develop with confidence. PG Bison ForestryAs a mark of PG Bison's commitment to sustainable plantation management, the PG Bison plantations of the South Eastern Cape1 and North Eastern Cape Forests2 (NECF) are certified according to the requirements of the FSC, which promotes responsible plantation management. PG Bison Board PlantsThe PG Bison Ugie Board Plant has implemented the necessary systems and requirements to successfully undergo its first FSC audit, receiving the FSC Chain of Custody (COC) certification3. This affords PG Bison the opportunity to supply BisonBord® under the FSC mark. PG Bison Boksburg, the home of SupaWood®, procures its fibre from a variety of sources including FSC certified plantations as well as post-industrial waste. It has initiated a programme to utilise post-industrial waste, accounting for approximately 10% of the current fibre input. This post-industrial waste consists of chips made from wooden objects such as old pallets and mine props as well as the waste from other wood-working facilities, such as furniture factories. The Veneering Plant, located at PG Bison Boksburg, is able to source FSC certified veneer layons, subject to a lead time, for the BisonPly and SupaPly product ranges. PG Bison Laminate PlantA programme is underway at PG Bison Alrode's Laminate Plant to assess its prospects in applying for the FSC COC Certificate. The initial audit date is set for the end of September 2009. If successful, this will provide PG Bison the ability to supply Formica, Deccon and SolidCore® under the FSC mark. Requiring FSC certified BisonBord® to be used as a substrate in products, such as MelaWood, may require a substantially longer lead time. PG Bison's upgraded products originate from various sites and the longer lead time is incurred as a result of additional logistics and specific production scheduling within these various sites.
